Canada, I Promise To Never Make Fun of You Again
I've jokingly referred to Canada as "America's Hat" before. Never again. I find this video to be amazing and inspiring. I hope my readers will agree.
I used to work for a local television news station. I was never on air. I worked in marketing and in sales during my 7.5 years at that station. During the 2016 Presidential campaign, I was in the marketing department and I was assigned one of the most incredible projects that I’ve ever been a part of professionally.
The station’s main anchor, chief photographer, and I were packed in a marked vehicle like sardines and sent on a tour of the state. We spent roughly 3 full days traveling the great state of Ohio. At the time, we still believed Ohio was a swing state and we wanted to get a sense of how four of the key swing counties in the state were going to vote.
Before we left the station and commenced our journey, we were pretty much in agreement that Trump probably didn’t have much of a shot in November. We, like most people, believed the polling data we were being fed by mainstream outlets like CNN and the national broadcast channels. After spending 3 days talking to real people with cameras on and cameras off, it became clear that not only were the polls very wrong, but Trump had a legitimate shot to win Ohio.
I remember thinking at the time, “okay, he’s probably still going to lose but I think it’s going to be much closer than people believe. The guy has a shot.” What was it that I had seen on the street that helped create that viewpoint? The people we talked to were completely fed up with the Washington establishment. And even though many of them told us willingly off camera that they were going to vote for Trump, a lot of them said they were doing so quietly and not telling friends and family because of the shame that had been associated with voting for a loudmouth reality TV personality.
It was striking to me how different the sentiment in the field was compared to what I was reading from the experts online and seeing on TV. But the people who we talked to didn’t care about all of the noise. They cared that nobody was held responsible for the financial crisis. They cared that nobody was held responsible for the opioid crisis; the rust belt being hit particularly hard by that big pharma-led debacle. They cared that their manufacturing jobs had been shipped overseas. These people were depressed. They were mad. And they were completely prepared to do something about it.
Trump, right or wrong, was a scratch off ticket for them. When the media wanted them to believe Trump was a concoction of a bunch bad adjectives, all they saw was a man who said he was going to “drain the swamp.” A swamp that they very rightfully viewed as their enemy. A collection of public/private elites who were no longer serving their interests. They saw a man who went to Detroit and told the automakers that they needed to start bringing jobs back to America. Specifically to the rust belt. If he lost, no big deal. Nothing would change. The bet had no downside in their eyes.
The point of this story is it took actually talking to real people for me to come to the conclusion that Trump had a legitimate shot to win Ohio. His votes weren’t coming from racists and lunatics. His votes were coming from people who felt oppressed by a system that left them behind. Whether you agree with that assessment or not, is irrelevant. It’s what they felt. It’s what they articulated. It’s what I witnessed with my own eyes and ears. The people like Rachel Maddow and Don Lemon had it wrong. Probably willingly. What do we know now? Well, he won. Obviously. So the angst with the Washington/corporate elite was very real and more widespread than just Ohio.
Rumble version if you don’t want to watch through ScrewTube.
I shared this because I am absolutely inspired by what I’m seeing out of the Canadian trucker convoy. “Fringe Minority” of racists and bigots? Sure doesn’t seem that way.
We’re doing this for everybody. Not just the truckers. Not just the nurses. But for everybody. You included. If you agree with us, great. If you don’t agree with us, that’s okay too. But we’re standing up for your rights and freedoms as well.
I’ll drink to that, dammit.
Amazing how negative the MSM portrays these truckers and their protest. Sickening. RESIST.
Lamestream media is going to cancel itself. They are ignoring the ground reality as you mentioned in this article, totally out of touch. They are focused on a couple of idiots with false flags, CBC blamed Russia, so anything but the truth.
