Great column. 👍🏻 We are losing the capacity to find joy in little ordinary everyday things as well as finding peace via inner stillness and simply being in the moment. I think it’s fundamentally altering us as human beings; it’s not a bug of technology but a deliberately crafted built-in feature. Covid certainly made it worse as well.

As devastating as it no doubt would be, I’m almost hoping for an emp blast. I’m not sure how else this ever increasing alteration of humanity can be halted. Barring that, all of us still aware enough to see the problem must do what we can to hold back the creep in our own lives, and especially in the lives of our children and grandchildren.

Glad you liked it! And welcome. Quincy University taught me the basics. Growing and adapting my subject matter over time has largely been self-taught through trial and error!

I don’t think my 3.5 year old has seen a single Disney movie and I’m gonna keep that going as long as possible. Disney sounds miserable so techs

If I ever subject myself to a Disney theme park again, ( I’ve gone once in 1979) Olaf would be the high point for me too. Some people go all the time. I hate crowds and lines, but I do love Olaf.

Yes it is going to be seriously difficult to avoid the great reset. As far as Disney, I’d guess they have options for people who don’t have smartphones but there is no doubt in my mind they’re purposely making it as difficult as possible to not have one. The food areas only had one cashier taking orders. The line at lunchtime was nearly an hour long. Totally avoidable but the longterm plan has to be to push mobile ordering permanently. I don’t think it’s a staffing problem. 1 person servicing a line of person to person orders. 3 people at the doorway instructing mobile ordering 🤔

Walt would not be at all happy with the way Disney operates now.

I'm with you. I don't even have a dumb phone and not having access to text is becoming a problem. I have no interest in texting, but some of these additional verifications for access to websites make this a problem. There is a lot that my husband and I can't do - tickets for many things are apparently now digital only. I guess we will be left behind.

It’s a tough spot to be in. Out of curiosity what is the reason for avoiding a cell phone altogether if you don’t mind sharing?

Cost and generally don't need one. I live very simply and really don't have many people to talk to.
